How to Integrate Facebook Chat into your Instant Messenger of choice
Facebook just opened up Jabber capabilities to their userbase via Facebook Connect. After reviewing the sample code, I realized it’s easy to set this up to connect your Instant Messenger of choice to stay logged into Facebook chat even when you aren’t on Facebook.
If you use iChat, Adium or any other Jabber-compatible instant messenger, you can now use it to stay connected to your chat buddies on Facebook.
Just do this:
- Add new account to your IM application
- Choose “Jabber” as your account/connection type
- Use <your Facebook username>@chat.facebook.com as the username
- Use <your Facebook password> as your password
- That’s it!
